We’re a mother-daughter project advocating for wellness through the Kichwa people’s deep connection to their land and rich cultural traditions with Guayusa.
Our mission is to share the physical, mental, and spiritual medicine of this sacred leaf from our country, Ecuador’s Amazon Rainforest.
Unlike conventional Guayusa producers who rely on industrial dehydration methods, WARMI upholds ancestral techniques and cultivation values. We collaborate directly with indigenous communities who hand-dry the leaves, preserving the plant’s spirit and essence. Our artisanal approach yields a guayusa of high quality flavor and nutrition. By forgoing artificial dehydration and ovens, we embrace a natural, extended oxidation process. This patient method preserves the leaves’ amino acids, unlocking potent flavors that mass-produced guayusa simply cannot match.
An 8 oz cup of guayusa contains approximately 40 mg to 90 mg of caffeine, depending on the brewing time. For a stronger caffeine effect, we recommend brewing for 10+ minutes, which can provide a caffeine boost comparable to that of coffee.
The flavor of guayusa is medium-bodied, mild, and slightly sweet, with none of the bitterness often associated with other caffeinated beverages like coffee or yerba mate. It features earthy notes complemented by subtle hints of nuttiness, and its smooth, lubricating texture makes it incredibly easy to drink. The rich, earthy aroma evokes a deep connection to nature, enhancing the overall experience.
Guayusa can be brewed using various methods, including a teapot with an infuser, a pot with a strainer, a French press, or a tea cup with an infuser. For each cup, use 1 tablespoon of Guayusa. Pour boiling water over the leaves and steep for 5 to 10 minutes. Feel free to experiment with steeping times; longer brews of up to 15 to 20 minutes can enhance the flavor while maintaining a smooth, non-bitter taste.
Guayusa has a shelf life of up to 2 years when stored properly. Proper storage is in a cool, dry place which can help maintain its quality throughout this period.
